Here are a selection of the different types of signal post you will find on the NYMR
![]() Levisham Down Starter |
This is a very good example of a NER Lower Quadrant. It uses a wooden post with the arm in a slot The cast iron spectacle plate is heavy enough to return the arm to the Danger position if the mechanism fails. |

This is another good example of an NER Lower Quadrant. This time it is a Fixed Distant, The arm is permanently fixed. |
| This is a good example of a standard BR Three aspect colour light
signal. This one is the Platform Two starter at Pickering. To the left of the main signal head is a Positional Light shunting signal. |

This is the Positional Light Shunt signal controlling the exit from Carriage and Wagon at Pickering. The yellow shunting signals control yard access to the main line. When the yellow is on Yard shunting past the signal is permitted but it has top be cleared for a train to access the main line, in this case Platform Two at Pickering | ![]() C & W Yard access Shunt Signal at Pickering |

This is a typical Upper Quadrant Signal. The signal is the outer home at the bottom of the bank on the approach to Grosmont. It is electrically operated and mounted on a tubular steel post. The Distant is fixed. |

post. Note the Green spectacle has been obscured to prevent it showing any green light. |
